Milestones: Alex Sharp’s 5-Year Journey at Greystar

Continuing our team member milestones series, we are highlighting Alex Sharp. As a member of Greystar’s tax team, he helps to ensure compliance while optimising processes across European regions.

Read on as he shares his experience of joining the organisation and how his role has evolved over time.

 

What attracted you to Greystar?

"I was drawn to Greystar as a growing, entrepreneurial company operating in an expanding part of the UK and European real estate industry, which has a great, positive impact on its residents and wider society. The appeal specifically for me was a varied role in tax, which offered exposure to many different parts of the Greystar business, external tax teams, and our investors too, so no two days would feel the same! During my time on secondment before joining permanently, I experienced the culture of Greystar and was struck by how hard the business works to raise awareness of and live by its pillars and values, impressing these on its employees. This really comes through in the experience of working here.”

What keeps you at Greystar?

“My initial impressions of Greystar continue to be true. I really enjoy the entrepreneurial nature of the business, which is combined with a very collegiate feel—there is great support from across the company while also being exposed to new, challenging issues. My role has evolved and grown during my time here, which speaks to the point of being well-supported but also pushed forward and challenged to keep developing and improving.”

How would you describe Greystar’s culture?

"It is clear that Greystar prioritises and works on its culture, which makes it stand out within the real estate industry—it is truly an enjoyable, challenging, and stimulating place to work. The values that particularly stand out to me are professionalism and teamwork. There is a great culture of working together as a team to solve issues and improve the business.”

What are you most looking forward to about Greystar’s future?

“More of the same! I have really enjoyed the journey Greystar has taken since I joined—entering new markets, improving the way it works with investors, constantly enhancing the service offering for our residents—and I have really enjoyed my role and how it has developed and grown over the years to keep me challenged. I see myself continuing to make my own small contribution to improving and growing the business.”
