Milestones: Georgios Karachalios's 5-Year Journey at Greystar

For our final team member milestone feature of 2024, we’re excited to highlight Georgios Karachalios from our Greystar Netherlands finance team. Over the past five years, Georgios has played an important part in developing our fund finance department and supporting the company’s growth across Europe.

Read on as he shares his experiences, the company culture that fuels his success, and his excitement for Greystar’s future.


 

What attracted you to Greystar?

"I can name several things that attracted me to Greystar. Throughout my career, I gained a lot of exposure to various real estate types but not as much with residential real estate, which triggered my interest and enthusiasm for joining Greystar. It is great to be part of a group that aims to create affordable housing for people. Needless to mention that Greystar is a leader in the industry and throughout these last couple of years has further expanded its business in Europe. Next to that, the group of people I was interviewed by were (and still are) committed to achieving excellence while fostering a positive and enjoyable environment for collaboration and contribution.”

What keeps you at Greystar?

“Reaching five years with Greystar is a significant milestone for me personally, as it makes Greystar the company I've been with the longest in my career so far. When I first joined the company, we didn’t even have a fund finance department, while now, five years down the road, we have a fully dedicated team consisting of seven people! Therefore, from a growth perspective, Greystar has been a great school regarding fund set-up and management. They say, ‘People don't leave bad jobs; they leave bad bosses,’ so I could not avoid mentioning that I have enjoyed every single moment working with my manager and my team, and this definitely plays the biggest role in my staying with Greystar for so long.”

How would you describe Greystar’s culture?

"I have always felt that Greystar encourages its people to realise their potential through challenging assignments that can facilitate learning and growth. Besides, culture isn’t just about working together; it’s about growing together. At times, work can be very demanding and thought-provoking, but there has always been support and trust from within the organisation. Finally, it is great to see that on an ongoing basis there are efforts to make the workplace a pleasant place, with mutual respect, integrity, and equality amongst employees.”

What are you most looking forward to about Greystar’s future?

“The vision of the leadership team is what makes me want to look forward to Greystar’s future. The company keeps growing exponentially in Europe and across the globe while maintaining a good relationship with its partners and providing a great living environment for its residents. Being part of this growth is very exciting!”
